So, here we are again
- Yup
But this time it's not about future shenanigans
- Nope
I guess these past two years, well, close to two years
have been pretty crazy. How was it from your point of view?
- Well, to be honest, I had no idea it would be this .. nuts to say the least.
You might think it would have been coming someday, but the truth is,
it even surprised me.
Kinda like that "need to pinch myself in the arm"?
- Oh believe me, I've been doing that a whole lot of times now.
It's so surreal. It just shouldn't happen just like that.
But still it did
- Yes, it really did.
Let's just go back to december 2009, cause that was actually
when the "A New Era"-project started taking shape, wasn't it?
- Yes it was. Wrote six demos during a shopping trip to Sweden.
You know, some on the boat, some in the car, even wrote one while trying out shoes.
Two of them made it through to the final selection.
But one of them wasn't meant to, right?
- You're right actually. One was written as a fun tribute to an indie-artist
I spotted on swedish idol that year. She ended the competition in 4th by the way.
Still it ended up on the project in the end.
But the other one was planned right from the start...
- Yeah. Breathe with me, which is the title of that song, was one of those songs
that put those smooth, shimmering colours to the project.
And it had really nice lyrics too...
- Yes, well, I guess I just wanted to capture the moment of two lovers in the bedroom.
No sex, nothing like that...
Just pure romance?
- Yeah, exactly. And I also did pick the demo version of it and placed it
on another project that came later that year.
Oh yeah, I remember that one. And to be honest, it was a really good pick.
- You think?
Yeah, that candlelight thing with you and the piano
gives it a tenderness I've hardly heard before.
- Why thank you, but we shall move on, right?
Yeah, of course. Cause you weren't just writing lyrics that year.
You got pretty busy on the net as well.
- Yes indeed. As you know, I'm kinda spontanius sometimes.
So I actually made my very first Twitter-account about 10 minutes
after stepping inside the door at home after that Swedish shoppping trip.
And you got yourself a fanpage on Facebook in 2010..
- Well, you know, it was more of a crazy idea at first.
But then somehow it grew on me and finally I thought
"Oh well, let's give it a try".
...and another twitter
- Yeah, thought I'd might make a twitter account for my lyrics writing alter ego
while I was at it. And that's really one thing I haven't regret for a single minute.
Have had many long nights filled with both laughter and tears on there.
Oh, and sorry for not asking too much about the lyrics by the way...
- No problem, it's always nice to highlight some other stuff in between.
But I've heard you're also building your very own little home
in the cyberspace. Correct?
- Yeah, that's right. I'm working on some sort of website.
Nothing advanced though, so don't get too thrilled.
But its deadline is on the 13th of December,
and that's another very special story.
- Yes indeed, on the 13th of December in 1991, I wrote my first song.
That it didn't get serious before 1999 is another story.
And that first song was..?
- A Richard Marx-influenced ballad with a title half-nicked off Bruce Springsteen.
All in all, a soft track that carries the name of "Ice on the river".
Look up Richard Marx-Hazard on YouTube or Spotify and you'll know what I mean.
Well, this interview is nearing its end, and we didn't focus on this year so much yet.
Has it been as crazy as 2010?
- I don't know actually. I think it might have been a bit calmer,
since I've had the chance to have a vacation this summer.
Haha, I see. But what does the calendar look like from now on?
- Well...packed? Nah, just kidding. But there are projects listed
to at least the end of January next year. Then we'll see.
Should take some time off it all and go through the notebooks as well,
though that's pretty tough when you're located about 150-200 miles away from them.
Yeah, I can tell. But thanks for taking some time off and doing this interview.
- Well, my pleasure. I guess it wont take long before next time, right?
You know me.
- I guess I do.
But anyway, as usual, I'll give you a call..
- ..and I'll serve the coffee.
Sounds like a plan. Have a great remainder of the year.
- Yeah thanks. And the same to you.
